Fall Facade by Sonja.

Autumn is upon us, and I’m SO excited! Although the traditional fall color palette washes out my skin tone and makes me look a little sleepy, I never feel more filled with positive energy than late August and November.

In anticipation of the upcoming season, I’ve been checking Style.com religiously to predict for me what will be big this year. In clothes, the fifties made a comeback on the runways in a big way: the silhouettes, textiles, and patterns of mid-twentieth-century America have been updated to suit today’s modern, confident and fashion forward woman. The look is a great one because it can be flattering for every body type, but it can get tricky not to get too tangled up in the ambiance and leave the house looking like you’re on your way to a sock hop. The best way to update the look is with your makeup and hair...and that’s what I’m here to help with!

Balance an otherwise demure A-line skirt and girly blouse with a strong red lip. Keep the eyes mostly neutral, focusing on liner and mascara rather than piling on shadow. Blush should be natural looking too. Take inspiration from this Versus look as seen in the Fall 2010 collection.

If you’re feeling a little more daring, take a cue from Ruffian and add some serious shimmer to your peepers with bright metallic liner and a pink mouth. Notice that the look isn’t over the top because the makeup artist here matched the lip shade to the model’s skin tone. A too-dark lip pigment here could look more like a disaster than a smashing success.

Soft curls and a sleek, natural-looking blowout will do a good job at modernizing whatever look you choose to pursue this fall. Try setting hair in velcro curlers for about 20 minutes immediately after blow-drying, then spraying gently with a glossing spray like Frederik Fekkai. Then brush gently, and you’re ready to go!

Happy Fall!

Boots and Boys

Boots and boys, they bring me so much joy....well sometimes. It's funny boots and boys may be more alike than you think, as in good ones are hard to find. :) But seriously does anyone else have this problem? I have been searching all summer for those perfect boots and still no luck. I go to a school where it snows more than it is sunny, so boots are a must. I am very picky when it comes to boots, they have to be the right height, color, style, and price. Currently I have some Fryes (my babies), but I can't get a pair of Fryes every time I want new boots, or I would be broke. I was on the Target website looking for some college dorm stuff and I stumbled upon these...

Some nice Frye look-a-like engineer boots! These are real leather and are only $49.99! Plus to the untrained eye, who is going to know the difference. :)

I love the buckles on these ones, they really give them that edgy vibe. These are also real leather and $49.99.

These last ones have a really classy equestrian look, which of course I am all about. These would look perfect with dark skinny jeans and a cute cardigan. A great look for fall. Oh and these ones are $39.99.

Who would have known Target was so stylish?

Helmet Head: Giveaway!!

Helmet Head: Giveaway!!: "Hello! I am so excited to have my very first giveaway. Woohoo!"

Check out this giveaway! It includes glasses, a ring, necklace, jewelry box, and headbands!!! I mean come on, what is more frugal than free. :)

Hope everyone has a good day/night!

Tata.

p.s. This is a picture of my fake boyfriend (don't ask) and I at a work party. I was very cute in a deep purple top and white skinny jeans with silver flats. As you can see, my date and I coordinated outfits. :) Oh and you can't really tell but I tried this cool thing with my hair. I didn't use a hair tie, but a bobby pin to hold in the braid. It makes it look like the braid is just magically staying in place, very cute!

Free Fallin'

Good afternoon loves.

So I just got back from seeing John Mayer in concert and I was a little bit upset that he didn't play "Asassin" or "Your Body is a Wonderland", but he did play "In Your Atmosphere" and "Free Fallin'" which were just magical. :) I am a very big fan of JM, you gotta love those bad boys. However, as I told everyone else, as John is damn sexy, Coldplay will always have my heart.

I love concerts because there are so many different people all coming together for some good music. I also love people watching and checking out what people are wearing, seeing what works and what doesn't. Concerts you get short-shorts and cute tank tops to sundresses, cross-body bags, to big sunglasses. I rocked some Sperry's, cute ruffle Deletta top, destroyed jeans, and of course my fringe bag. Of course I didn't get a good pick of my outfit, but i swear it was cute. :)

Here I am with one of my friends Hope, who rocked a over-sized tee and distressed gray skinnys. I think skinny jeans are just a must for concerts. Wouldn't you agree?

Anyway I had a great weekend with friends and John Mayer. This week I am going to challenge myself to get a cute outfit from Goodwill and Salvo. So we will see how that goes. Hope everyone had a great weekend too!

Here is my pick for the day!

The military look has become more and more popular this year, and is a must for this fall! I like to think Coldplay started the trend. :) This one is $19.99 from Papaya. Plus enjoy 10% off for back to school!

Well loves I leave you with a little advice I got from JM last night. "Don't let that one person stop you from giving a chance to someone else." Pretty good advice I think I need to start following.

Tata for now.

Plato will be your new best friend.

Hello loves, as promised I will be critiquing the many thrift stores I plan to hit up this month before I venture of to school and here is the first one: Plato's Closet.

So let me explain how Plato's Closet works...

First you start off by cleaning your closet of all the things you don't want. Then you put them all into bags and drive to a Plato's Closet. There you will sign in and give them your bags to sort through. Depending on how busy they are and how much stuff you have it may take them up to an hour to sort through your stuff. However; not to worry there is a whole store full of name brand clothing for you to sort through. They usually have things sorted by size (plus) and color (bigger plus). After you are finished looking and they are finished sorting, you go up to the cashier and hand them the items you want and then tell them you also have stuff they looked through. The cashier will then ask you if you want to do a trade, meaning they will total up your new items and subtract that from the value of your old items they want. You don't have to do this, but I don't understand why you wouldn't :). Anyway in the end you will either owe them more money, break even, or the best they still owe you some moula. :) Seems pretty cool right!

Well here is my experience in pictures...

So here is what I started off with. F.y.i. it is better if you have name brand items. They love Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, Hollister, Forever 21, ect.

You bring them here...

And you come out with...

Woohoo two new outfits for the Syracuse night life!!!
Here is what I got itemized:
The Limited sequinced tank - $8
Forever 21 skirt (with the tags still on) - $8
Sequince belt - $3
Black tank - $6
J Crew matchstick cut white pants - $14
Black pants: $10

Grand total: $49

But anyway they didn't take all of my stuff (damn it!) but they took a lot (14 items!!!) and gave me $58.70 for it!

So that means in the end they owed me $9.70! If that isn't a good deal I don't know what else is. Then the rest of the stuff they didn't want I am going to donate to Goodwill or Salvo when I hit them up next!

So if you are inspired (which you should be) here is their website so you can locate a Plato's near you!

Tata for now!

P.S. the middle photo is from Plato's Closet of Rochester.

College Bound

So I have been hard at work getting ready for going back to Syracuse, as I go back in three short weeks! So yesterday I went through my closet, which I always love doing because I always forget about things I own. This time however I took an inventory of all the things I have so it would be easier to figure out what I need. So far the list includes: pea coat, dresses, skirts, cute blouses...I know not very descriptive and I actually seem to need a lot more than I had thought. It seems that my annual closet raid left me feeling less fulfilled and more feeling like i need to go shopping!!! Unfortunately on top of all the other things I need for school, books, food, toiletries, not a lot of moula left for clothes.

So over the next few short weeks I am going on a thrifting spree. I will be heading to every consignment shop I know in Rochester. This is going to include, Plato's Closet, Goodwill, Salvo, Volunteers of America, and the Avon flea market. My challenge is going to be trying to find cute stylish clothes for considerably less than store price. Wish me luck :).

To hold you all over here is my pick of the day:

Lulu's "All's Fair in Love & Warhol" dress. This dress is cute, trendy, and perfect for a night out on the town and only $31!!! Now that is a deal!

Tata for now loves.
